Beckman
Net Company is located in a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin, called
Fitchburg, and have been in the landing net business since the
mid 1960's. At that time, our dad, Milo Beckman, an ardent fisherman
who also had experience in mechanical engineering. Was frustrated
with the poor quality of the landing nets available on the market;
so he set out to design one that would handle the way he wanted,
stand up to hard use, and last more that a couple of seasons.
| Dad
always said, "There's no reason why a net shouldn't last ten
years--or at least until you run over it with the car."
|
Using
the strongest materials he could buy and assembling each one by
hand, he created the first Beckman Muskie Nets, tested the design
himself, and sold them mainly to tackle dealers in the Muskie
Country of Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Word spread fast
among the Muskie guides and diehard Muskie fishermen and within
a few years, he could barely keep up with the demand. He asked
his sons -- that's us: Jim and Bruce to form a partnership with
him, and the two of us carry on the business to this day.
When
the Great Lakes fishing started to take off, Charter Captains
demanded a strong landing net that could handle the biggest
King Salmon -- some over 30 pounds -- they sure didn't want to
buy a new one every year. Beckman designed the super-strong, steel-hoop
King, Chinook, and Coho models -- some with extra-long or telescoping
handles (there also great for bridges or breakwalls) and they
became an instant success. Fisherman and dealers all over the
Midwest called in suggestions for new models and by the late 80's
we covered all type of fishing: Salmon, Muskie, Walleye, Northern,
Bass, Trout, Panfish.
We
still remained mostly local in the Midwest until the 90's, when
we started to get calls from the West Coast, mainly Washington,
Oregon, and Alaska -- where, apparently, they had no landing nets
with the strength and quality of ours. Now, our west coast distributors
are the ones who can barely keep up with the demand.
We
(Jim and Bruce) still fish, and we test each and every new model.
Believe it or not, each Beckman Net is still made by hand right
here in Wisconsin, with American-made materials; and every net
is tagged -- by one of us -- with a Warranty card which guarantees
that, with normal use the net bag and yoke assembly, should last
you for years. We guarantee your
satisfaction.
Lately
everyone seems to want our coated bags which resist hooks and
environmental breakdown, stay soft, and are absolutely perfect
for catch and release.
Our
nets do cost a little more that other brands. The minute you handle
one, you'll see why. Then you can decide what you want: a tool
or a toy. Whichever you decide -- we wish you Good Fishing!
